As-built floor plans: from your measured field sketch to CAD
An as-built floor plan starts with measuring on site; the slow part is drafting it afterwards. Photograph the field sketch with your measurements and Plan Chat’s AI drafter draws the existing floor plan as CAD: walls with thickness, doors and windows where you marked them, dimension chains, room names and areas. Correct anything in a sentence, then deliver a PDF sheet or a DWG/DXF for the designer.
Some new accounts get their first drawing free while we test it.

How it works
1. Measure and sketch on site
Rooms, wall lengths, openings and ceiling notes on paper or a tablet, the way you always do.
2. Upload the sketch
A photo or a scan of each floor. The drafter uses your numbers as they are and tells you where it had to assume something.
3. Review and deliver
Check the dimension chains against your notes, correct by chat or with the CAD tools, then export DWG, DXF or a scaled PDF.

Your measurements win
Written dimensions are used exactly; where a closing dimension does not add up, the drafter says so instead of hiding it.
Existing-conditions ready
Hatched walls, door swings, windows, stairs, fixtures and a room schedule with areas, on standard layers for the remodel design.
Floor by floor
Draft each level as its own drawing from its own sketch; every drawing keeps its versions.
What you get
| DXF | Layered, opens in AutoCAD, BricsCAD, DraftSight, LibreCAD, QCAD, Rhino, SketchUp (import) and Revit (link). |
|---|---|
| DWG | AutoCAD 2010 format, so every AutoCAD from 2010 on and most DWG-compatible programs open it. |
| A3 landscape sheet plotted to a true scale (1:50, 1:100 …) with a border and a title block. |
Plus a 3D model built from the same walls and openings, photoreal renders of any version, and every version kept with its own link.
Layers in the drawing
| A-WALL | walls, with A-WALL-PATT for the cut hatch |
|---|---|
| A-DOOR / A-GLAZ | doors with swings, windows |
| A-GRID | structural grid with bubbles (A, B, C … / 1, 2, 3 …) |
| A-ANNO-DIMS | dimension chains, overall and per bay |
| A-ANNO-TEXT | room names, numbers and areas, room schedule |
| A-FURN / A-FLOR-FIXT | furniture, kitchen and bathroom fixtures |
| A-FLOR-STRS / A-SITE / A-PLNT | stairs, site elements, trees |
Tips for the best result
- Write overall lengths and every room dimension; add wall thickness at a few openings.
- Mark doors with their swing and windows with their width.
- Note the unit on the sketch (ft-in or metres).
- Photograph each sheet flat and straight from above.
Questions
How do I turn field measurements into an as-built floor plan?
Sketch the floor on site with your measurements, photograph the sketch and upload it to Plan Chat. The AI drafter draws the existing floor plan as CAD using your dimensions, and you download DWG, DXF or a PDF sheet.
Does the AI measure the building?
No. You (or your surveyor) measure on site; the AI does the drafting. It can also redraw an existing plan from a scan or PDF if one is available.
Is the result a certified as-built drawing?
No. It is a drawing of what your sketch says, drafted by AI. Check it against your field notes; drawings for permits or legal records need the sign-off your jurisdiction requires.
Who uses this?
Remodel designers, drafters, home inspectors, property managers and contractors who need construction as-builts of the floor plan and already measure on site, but want the drafting done faster.
What does it cost?
Plans from $12 a month (AI Architectures credits). A floor drafted from a sketch usually uses 700 to 1,800 credits; DWG, DXF and PDF downloads are included.
Try it with your own plan
Drawings, changes and renders use credits from an AI Architectures plan, from $12 a month; DXF, DWG and PDF downloads are included. See pricing.
