Sketch or photo of a plan to a SketchUp model

Pick a sketch or a photo of a floor plan, or describe a house. The AI drafter draws a dimensioned plan and the extension builds it in SketchUp: walls pushed up to height with door and window openings, lintels, sills and glass, a floor slab and furniture blocks, grouped and on their own tags. SketchUp Pro also imports the 2D CAD plan.

Install

Download the .rbz file.
In SketchUp open Extensions → Extension Manager → Install Extension, pick the .rbz and confirm.
Use Extensions → Plan Chat, or the Plan Chat toolbar.

Sign in

The first command opens your browser on the Plan Chat sign-in page. Sign in (email or Google), click “Continue”, and the app is signed in. One sign-in works for all Plan Chat plug-ins on the computer. No account yet? Create one in the studio.

Commands

Draw from image…	Sketch, photo or plan image → 3D model (and 2D plan in Pro).
Draw from description…	Describe a building; the drafter draws it.
Insert my project…	Build one of your Plan Chat drawings in the model.
Sign in / Sign out	Your Plan Chat account.

What the drafter draws

A clean CAD floor plan, not a traced image: structural grid, walls with real thickness, doors with swings, windows, furniture and fixtures, dimension chains, room names and areas, a room schedule and a legend, on standard AIA layers. Every drawing stays in your account with all its versions, so you can change it by chat in the browser studio, see it in 3D, render it, and insert the new version again.

Questions

Does it work in SketchUp Free or Go?

Extensions need the desktop app: SketchUp Pro, Studio or the older Make editions, 2021 or later. The 3D model works in all of them; importing the 2D DWG needs Pro.

What is in the model?

Walls from the drawing’s wall outlines pushed up to 2.7 m with the openings cut, lintels over doors and windows, sills and glass in windows, a floor slab, and furniture as simple blocks at their real positions, in one group with tags for walls, openings, floor and furniture.

Does it work for my free first design?

Yes, the 3D model does. The 2D DWG of a free design comes with any plan.

What does it cost?

The plug-in is free. Each drawing uses Plan Chat credits from your AI Architectures plan (a new drawing typically uses 700 to 1,800 credits); some new accounts get their first drawing free.
